Man-Machine Interfacing
Creative technology workshop by Die Wolke · 2019–ongoing

Two-day creative workshop on interactive technology, applied as a bridge between the human body and the digital world. The medium at the centre of the workshop is the inertial sensor (IMU), now present on nearly every mobile device.
Over 8 hours across two days, participants build a wireless, wearable inertial interface from a microcontroller and IMU sensors, then bring its data — acceleration, rotation, orientation — into a visual or audio programming environment to control sound and image in real time. Applications include control and modulation of audiovisual elements for interactive installations, the body as a controller for musical performance, real-time interactive visuals, and performing arts and contemporary dance. Software used includes Max 9, TouchDesigner, and Supercollider.
The workshop is aimed at anyone wishing to introduce interactive elements into an artistic or technical practice, as well as people from the arts who would like an introduction to what technology can bring to the performative vocabulary. No previous programming experience is required (intermediate level); participants should bring a laptop and headphones.
